Why does my iPhone display an Apple alert message saying “Important Message” or “Unknown Part”?Updated a month ago
You purchased a refurbished iPhone on Back Market Pro, but an Apple alert message, about its battery, screen, or camera, appears on your screen.
For example: "Important battery message - Unable to verify if this iPhone has an original Apple battery”. Or “Unknown Part” in the “Parts and Repairs History” section of your Settings.
Don’t worry, this is normal for some refurbished iPhones.
What do these messages mean?
These messages appear when your device has been repaired. They give you information about the part(s) that were replaced: battery, screen, or camera, depending on your iPhone model (see below). They do not affect device performance but may limit battery health monitoring.
Only an Apple Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace a component in the latest iPhones without this message appearing. However, this doesn’t mean that the changed part has a problem or is defective. It simply means that it has been replaced with a new battery/camera/screen that works just as efficiently as the original part.
These messages do not affect the performance of your device. It will be visible on your lock screen for 4 days, then for an additional 15 days in your Settings. The only downside is that it will be more difficult to monitor the health of your battery and therefore know when it is time to replace it.
To find out more about the replaced components, follow the instructions below:
- iOS 15.2 and later: Go to "Settings" → "General" → "Information" → "Parts and Repair History" to see the replaced components. Parts not replaced by Apple will appear as "Unknown Part", but they are functionally identical to the originals.
- Versions prior to iOS 15.2: Go to "Settings" → "Battery" → "Battery Health" (for the battery), or "Settings" → "General" → "About" (for the camera and screen).
Which models are affected?
Only the latest iPhones (XR, XS, XS Max, and later generations) are affected.
- For iOS 15.2 and later: The information displayed depends on your model. You can check this by going to “Settings” → “General” → “Information” → “Parts and Repair History”.
- iPhone XR, XS, XS Max and later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation): You can see if the battery has been replaced.
- iPhone 11 models: You can see if the battery or screen has been replaced.
- iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models: You can see if the battery, screen, or camera have been replaced.
- iOS versions prior to iOS 15.2: You will see an "Important Battery Message", "Important Screen Message" or "Important Camera Message".
